Yup, it’s true. Today a wrote a really long essay because I was bored. It is mostly about why we should waste less money and re-consider what we consider cool. It is about how powerful our opinions are, and how we can fight back against advertising agencies to re-claim our identities. It is not necessary that we identify with brands. Instead, lets identify with a desire to make the world a better place, to share art, and to travel around and make friends. It makes for a much more meaningful existence than identifying with ed-hardy designs. Trust me. It’s true. (sorry if the essay offends you)
Here is what I wrote about it on my “essays” page:
This is an essay I wrote for no particular reason, except that people’s decisions to waste money began to annoy me a bit. This essay will certainly be unpopular. Among its claims: girls should stop wearing make-up, we should spend way less money on weddings, and most of all we should stop buying name brand crap and walking around like we are moving billboards. Its not meant to offend, just to hopefully make people re-consider what makes something valuable.
Thats it. You can navigate to the essay with the menu above or just click here.
